Rules
1. Basic Format and Scoring
- Single Elimination: A knockout format where the winner advances and the loser is immediately eliminated.
- Preliminary Rounds (Direct Scoring): The first team to reach 15 points wins the match immediately.
- Finals (Semi-finals & Finals - Direct Scoring): The first team to reach 21 points wins the match immediately.
- Strict No-Deuce (Sudden Death): There is no requirement to win by 2 points. If the score reaches 14:14 in the preliminaries, the team that scores the next point wins immediately (finishing 15:14). The same applies to the finals at 20:20 (finishing 21:20).
- Time-Cap: Preliminary matches have a strict limit of 10 minutes, while the finals (Semi-finals & Finals) have a limit of 15 minutes. No time-outs are allowed during the match. When the time limit is reached, the referee will stop the match immediately, and the rally currently in progress will not count! If neither team has reached 15/21 points, the team with the higher score wins. In the event of a tie (e.g., 7:7), a "Golden Point" will be played. The original serving side will serve, and whoever wins that rally wins the match.
- Gender Handicap System: Handicaps are calculated based on the difference in the number of male players between the teams. A team will concede 2 points per male player difference.
- Example: Men's Doubles vs. Mixed Doubles, or Mixed Doubles vs. Women's Doubles - The match starts at 0:2.
- Example: Men's Doubles vs. Women's Doubles - The match starts at 0:4.
- If there is no gender difference between the teams, no handicap is applied, and the match starts at 0:0.
2. Serving
- Underhand Serves: Paddle contact with the ball must not be made above the waist level. The head of the paddle must not be above the highest part of the wrist at contact.
- Serve Placement: The server must serve to the service court diagonally opposite their correct position. The served ball must clear the opponent’s non-volley zone, with or without touching the net, and land in the correct service court.
- 10-Second Rule: The server must serve the ball within 10 seconds after the score call is completed. When the server does not serve within 10 seconds after the score is called, it is a fault against the server.
- Serve and Calling the Score:
- Initial service side is determined by a coin toss. The serving order follows the "Left-Odd, Right-Even" rule based on the serving team's score. Players cannot swap their serving positions once the initial serving order is set.
- The entire score must be called LOUDLY before the server hits the serve. The score must be called as two numbers: server’s score, then receiver’s score. To start each game, the score will be called as “zero – zero.”.
3. Two Bounce Rule
- When the ball is served, the receiving team must let it bounce before returning, and then the serving team must let it bounce before returning, thus two bounces.
- After the ball has bounced once in each team’s court, both teams may either volley the ball (hit the ball before it bounces) or play it off a bounce (ground stroke).
- The two-bounce rule eliminates the serve and volley advantage and extends rallies. Violations result in a 1-point loss.
4. Non-Volley Zone(The Kitchen)
- The non-volley zone is the court area within 7 feet on both sides of the net. (Commonly referred to as “the kitchen.”)。
- Volleying is prohibited within the non-volley zone. This rule prevents players from executing smashes from a position within the zone.
- If a player plays a shot from inside the Kitchen, the ball must have already bounced once within that zone.
- It is a fault if, after volleying, a player is carried by momentum into or touches the non-volley zone, even if the volleyed ball is declared dead before this happens.
5. Family Cup Special Regulations
- Service Concession: Adults must strictly adhere to standard underhand regulations. Posture restrictions are relaxed for children under 12, provided the ball successfully clears the net.
- Conduct: The division emphasizes sportsmanship. Official referee rulings are final and absolute.
6. General Rules
- Warm-up: Before each match starts, teams are only allowed a 1-minute warm-up on the court.
- Court Selection: A coin toss immediately follows the warm-up to determine service or side choice. There will be no switching of sides during the match.
- Late Penalties: Due to the tight schedule, if a team fails to appear on the court within 5 minutes after their match is called via the tournament broadcast, they will be considered to have forfeited, and their opponents will advance automatically.
- Referee Authority: A scorer/referee is assigned to each court. All on-court disputes will be subject to the referee’s immediate decision, which is final.
7. Equipment & Dress Code
- Team Uniform Requirements: For ease of identification, participants must wear athletic shirts of the same style or color scheme during the match. Because the official ball is yellow, participants are strictly prohibited from wearing yellow or closely matching colors.
- Footwear Restrictions: Clean, non-marking athletic or tennis shoes are mandatory. Sandals, slippers, and casual shoes are banned from the courts.
- Paddles: Participants are required to bring their own pickleball paddles that comply with international standards. The use of any illegally modified or non-compliant paddles is strictly prohibited.
- Personal Supplies: Due to the high intensity of the tournament, participants must bring their own water bottles, drinking water, and personal towels for hydration and cooling down.
